This Summer 2 term in class we are reading and exploring:
Tiddler by Julia Donaldson. We will be learning about different sea creatures that live under the sea and exploring ocean habitats. We will be learning a short version of the story and creating a class story map to use to support us retelling the story with actions. We will be creating pictures of the different sea creatures and writing sentences about our favourite part of the story by applying our phonics knowledge into our writing.
Pirates love underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort. We will be transforming into cheeky pirates who will be on a quest to find golden underpants. We will learn how the Captain and his crew in this story go on an adventure to find the special golden underpants on a desert island but they discover another crew of pirates who have the golden underpants! We will be creating ourselves as pirates and writing sentences about what we would like to do as a pirate and writing about our favourite part of the story.
Clean up by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola. Continuing with our under the sea theme, we will be discovering and exploring other beaches and seas from around the world. We will meet and learn about a girl called Rocket who visits her grandparents in Jamacia with her family and enjoys a day out at the beach only to discover a turtle in a rockpool caught up in plastic. We will be exploring the importance of helping to keep beaches and oceans clean to protect sea creatures and their habitats in and around the waters. We will create posters informing others of how they can help and protect our oceans around the world.

Sharing and grouping by sharing practically for a purpose by having a number of objects to share between various people or groups.
Can you find three teddy bears and 6 apples? Can you share the apples out fairly between the three bears?
Visualise, build and map by Identify units of repeating patterns and create own pattern rules. Replicate and build scenes and constructions and Visualise from different positions. Explore mapping.

Understanding the World learning
We are exploring:
Continuing to explore the changes in Summer and observing insects and growth around our environments. We will be exploring sea creatures, their habitats and different oceans and seas around the world. We will be investigating dangers that are causing problems for sea creatures and their habitats. We will create treasure maps and maps on the environment that we live in.
Expressive arts and design learning:
We are exploring:
To choose and use a range of resources to create sea creatures, characters and habitats. We are also exploring music through creating choosing to use different instruments to create beach sounds and we will be role playing with our imaginations to become pirates and characters from our taught stories.

This Summer 1 term in class we are reading and exploring:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We will be learning and observing the different changes in the caterpillar and exploring the different foods that he enjoyed eating. We will be learning a short version of the story and creating a class story map to use to support us retelling the story with actions. We will be creating pictures of the caterpillar and butterfly to help us write sentences about what the characters were doing in the story.

To 20 and beyond by counting and building numbers beyond 10, continuing patterns beyond 10 and verbally counting beyond 20.

Understanding the World learning
We are exploring:
Continuing to explore the changes in Spring and observing more development with plants and growing our potatoes and new flowers. We will be observing the life cycle of butterflies and having real caterpillars in our classroom to observe their changes over the next few weeks and having a butterfly release party when they are ready to fly away and begin the cycle again. We will be creating mini caterpillar pots to investigate growing hair for them by plating cress seeds.

We are exploring:
To choose and use different resources to create and represent a range of characters, settings or objects. We are also exploring music through creating dances, songs and performances. We will be role playing with our imaginations to be gardeners and characters from our taught stories.

Literacy learning
This Spring 2 term in class we are reading and exploring:
Superheroes in the different texts about Supertato and Evil Pea. We begun our learning on the story of 'Supertato' by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet by creating and retelling a short version of the story and using actions to bring the exciting story to life. We have been applying our phonics knowledge to help us to sound out and write about the different characters and creating new a new super vegetable to rescue the veggies in the supermarket.
Supertato: Evil Pea rules by Sue Hendra and Paul linnet. We continued our learning on Supertato by discovering Evil Pea had tried to take over the supermarket and freeze Supertato. We learnt how the veggies helped each other to save their favourite superhero and their home by working together to trap Evil Pea. The children enjoyed making and creating the different vegetables and writing about how they would trap Evil Pea!
My mum is a Super mum by Angelia McAllister and Alex T Smith. To celebrate Mother's day coming up, we celebrated the special females in our lives by embracing the super mum's, grandmother's, aunties and sister's that we love and sharing why we love them so much. The children created wonderful pictures of their super females and wrote cards to them to say thank you.
Supertato: The great eggscape! by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. To celebrate the festival of Easter, we continued our learning with Supertato and Evil Pea by exploring Easter though this story. Evil Pea has stolen and eaten lots of chocolate eggs from the supermarket shelves and it was up to the veggies to try and save the eggs. Supertato dressed up as an egg to trick Evil Pea but he knew it was Supertato and put him in an egg box. So it was down to the other veggies and a surprise Easter bunny to save the day! The children had lots of fun creating and innovating new vegetable bunnies and planning how to trap Evil Pea.
Maths learning
We are exploring:
Length, height and time by comparing the length and height of different objects and using the correct mathematical vocabulary to describe what we see. Recognising what we can do within 1 minute, talking about our daily routines and ordering the days of the week.
Can you and your family go to the park and collect lots of different twigs and sticks? Can you compare the length of the twigs and sticks by recognising and saying which is the shortest and which is the longest? Can you compare the height of the twigs and sticks?
Building 9 and 10 by recognising numerals and amounts to 10, comparing numbers and subitising numbers to 10 and making number bonds to 10.
Can you sing along to the number bonds to 10 song?
Explore 3-D shapes by recognising and naming shapes, identifying 2-D shapes within 3-D shapes and use 3-D shapes for tasks. Copy and continue repeating patterns.
Can you go on a 3-D shape hunt around your home and describe what shapes you can see in the objects that you find?
Understanding the World learning
We are exploring:
The different changes of the season in Spring by observing the weather and looking at new growth in plants and trees around us. We will be learning about how some people celebrate Eid and Easter. We will be planting and growing our own mini Supertatos.

Literacy learning
This Spring 1 term in class we are reading and exploring:
Traditional tales from around the world and we are starting with The Gingerbread Man. We have been learning to retell a short version of the story by using a story map that we created together as a class and with Makaton actions. We have been applying our phonics knowledge to help use sound out and write about which animals the gingerbread man met and what he did in the story.
Anansi and the golden pot by Taiye Selasi. We have been learning this traditional story about Anansi the spider from Ghana and the importance of sharing with your friends and family. The children created lots of Anansi spider creations and writing about what they wish would come out of their golden pots.
Goldy Luck and The Three Pandas by Natasha Yim. We have been learning this traditional Asian story which is a take on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This version is about families celebrating the festival of Chinese New Year and a little girl called Goldy being sent to share turnip cakes by her mother with the Chan pandas but they are not home and she explores their home with disastrous consequences but recognising that she needs to take responsibility for her actions to make good choices. The children created and wrote about the different characters in the story and applied their phonics knowledge to sound out the words that they wanted to write.

We are exploring:
Alive in 5 by exploring recognising and making zero, looking at how many there are, how many ways to find and make 1,2,3,4 and 5 and where we can see these numbers.

We are exploring:
The different changes of Winter by using our senses to explore, observe and feel the changes. We will develop our understanding of the world by exploring Africa and China to observe if there are any similarities or differences between those places and where we live in England. We will be celebrating Chinese New Year and the year of the horse.

Literacy learning
This Autumn 2 term in class we are reading and exploring:
We celebrated and learnt about the festival of Christmas and read different types of stories on how some people celebrate. We had a cheeky elf come and visit us and did cheeky things daily. One day the elf escaped from our classroom and we made wanted posters to try find him and bring him back. We loved having elf in our classroom and sharing our learning with him.
Stick Man by Julia Donaldson. We have been learning to retell a short version of the story by using a story map that we created together as a class and with Makaton actions. We also explored the different seasons that Stick Man experienced on his journey through the story. The children created characters from Stick Man, retold the story in the small world and helped Stick Man to get home in the different learning areas.

Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. We explored friendship and the South Pole by reading this story for our learning. The children built on their PSED skills by developing their understanding that the boy tried to help the penguin find his home but realised that the penguin was lonely and wanted to be friends with the boy. The children roll played becoming the characters and answering question as the boy and penguin, they applied their phonics knowledge to describe how the penguin was feeling when he was left alone in the South Pole and explored the Antarctica in the sensory tray with snow and Artic animals.
We celebrated and learnt about the history of Bonfire night and listened to different stories about why and how it is celebrated. We enjoyed creating fireworks and sounding out words to describe our creations. We also had a firework celebration with glow sticks.
In our mark making and writing development we have been continuing to develop our tri pod grip and hold our mark making tools correctly to support us forming letters and drawing pictures. Can you practice saying and forming the different phonic sounds by saying the letter rhymes?
Maths learning
We are exploring:
It's me 1,2,3 by exploring how many there are, how many ways to find and make 1,2, or 3 and where we can see these numbers.
Can you choose a number and write that number on a piece of paper? Can you look around your home and match your number card to the same amount of objects? You could write number 2 and match it to two apples.
Circles and triangles by identifying and naming these 2D shapes in the environment. We will be learning to reason how we know what a circle and triangle is by identifying their properties and sorting the shapes by size and colour.
Can you go on a circle and triangle hunt and find these shapes in your home or outside on your walk to or from school?
1,2,3,4,5 by finding these numbers, beginning to develop a recognition to subitise 4 and 5, identifying what 1 more and less is of a given number and understanding compositions of these numbers.
Can you sing along and count with the song?
Shapes with 4 sides by identifying and naming these 2D shapes in the environment. We will be learning to reason how we know what shapes with 4 sides are called and why by identifying their properties and sorting the shapes by size and colour.

Understanding the World learning
We are exploring:
The different changes of Autumn into Winter by using our senses to explore, observe and feel the changes. We are learning and celebrating different festivals during the Autumn 2 term that some people celebrate such as Hanukkah and Christmas. We will develop our understanding of the world by exploring The Caribbean and the Antarctica and comparing if there are any similarities or differences between there and where we live in England.
Literacy learning
This Autumn 1 term in class we are reading and exploring:
Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. We have been learning to re-tell a short version of the story by using a story map that we made to help us. We have been learning fun and interesting facts about owls too.
Tilda Tries Again by Tom Percival. We have been developing and learning our resilience skills at not giving up when things are a little tricky to do. We have been challenging ourselves to set goals to keep trying at the different things that we find tricky.
The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. We have been exploring the different emotions and feelings that we feel just like the colour monster. We have been discussing what makes us feel sad, happy, excited, angry or worried. We have been sharing our thoughts with each other and being supper friends to support one another.
In our mark making and writing development we have been learning to hold our pencil and pens with a tri pod grip to support us forming letters and drawing pictures. Can you practice some finger gym exercises at home?

Matching, sorting and comparing a range of objects to recognise if they are the same or different.
Can you look around your home and find objects that match to show your grown up? Can you find matching socks? Can you find matching pencils? Can you find matching cups?
