Maths:
During the first autumn term, children will develop their understanding of place value within 10 by counting forwards and backwards, reading and writing numbers, and comparing and ordering them. They will also explore one more and one less. Children will then develop their addition and subtraction skills by combining groups, finding totals, taking away and solving simple number problems.
English:
In English, children will focus on the story Little Red Riding Hood by Lari Don. They will explore the characters, setting and key events before learning to retell the story in the correct sequence. Children will develop their sentence-writing skills by using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and carefully chosen vocabulary. By the end of the unit, they will write a narrative based on the story.
Science:
In Science, children will learn about the human body. They will identify and name the main parts of the body and explore the five senses, including which body parts are linked to each sense. Children will also take part in simple observations and activities to develop their understanding of how the human body works.
